Alternative Funk

The Band

Biography
The story of Hazy Ray started with the slightly jazz, slightly soul, lightly Latin, alternative compositions of singer/songwriter Joshua Ray. Adding young trombone phenom, Mike Hayes, to the mix not only yielded a name for the duo, but it injected a blues element that was previously a rare occurrence in Ray’s music. Hayes and Ray were soon joined with an un-tamable fuel source in gospel/rock drummer John Wesley. This addition lit a fire that has since turned to a palpable un-drain-able energy source for every audience the band takes on. “You might catch a different cat behind the kit. . .” say Ray, “but we wouldn’t let them on our stage with out that fire in their soul.” Lastly, in April of this year (2011) Hazy Ray was finally made whole by Flektone inspired stand-up bassist, Mitch Curtis. This influence is undoubtedly the source of the unison line transitions found in Ray’s new tunes “Stay and Fight” and “My Song”.
